Choosing the perfect beach chair: A guide

October 13, 2009

Nothing beats a day at the beach. Playing in the waves, sitting in the sun (or the shade), the kids building sandcastles.

To maximize your relaxation at the beach, bring beach chairs that will provide comfort and stability. Here’s a quick guide to help you make your decision.

Fun at the beach

Fun at the beach

First off, the whole idea of a beach chair is to make you comfortable. Cheap department store chairs will not provide the level of comfort you want. Make sure the chairs provide adequate support for your whole body. Consider how the material it is made of will feel when you are sitting on it.

Next, they need to be sturdy. The last thing you want is to fall sideways into the sand while you’re relaxing at the beach. Sturdy construction is a must.

You also want them to be convenient to carry. Your beach chairs should fold up easily and securely, and be easy to set up and take down.

And finally, you need your beach chairs to be easy to clean. You can’t avoid getting sand or water on them at the beach! The best beach chairs will be easy to rinse or wipe off.

Some non-essential but desirable features include cup holders and adjustable footrests. Depending on how you like to relax, you may want to consider these options.

A trip to the beach is one of the best ways to relax and unwind. If you follow this guide when selecting your beach chairs, you will be sure to have a fun, stress-free day at the beach!

What Camping Gear Should You Bring When You Take Your Kids Camping?

October 13, 2009

Taking your kids camping can create the kind of fond memories that they will cherish for a lifetime. In order to make sure your trip is a success, be prepared on your next camping trip. Being outdoors with their endless energy and imagination is all they need to have a great time, as long as the basics are covered.

Adventurous kids tend to get some cuts and scrapes on camping adventures. Be sure to bring a first aid kit. Check it before you leave to make sure it has everything you might need.

Personal care items are very important. Bring toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, tissues, and other related items.

Sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets are next. Extra blankets and pillows can come in very handy and help your kids be more comfortable.

Bring flashlights and lanterns. Having enough for the kids to use will help them have a lot more fun and be safer when it’s dark. Bring extra batteries for them.

If you have small kids, they might get bored without some books, coloring books and crayons, and some small toys to play with. Travel-size board games are great in the car, too.

Bring food that kids will eat! Hot dogs, marshmallows, trail mix, etc. Don’t assume that your kids will be happy eating things they aren’t used to just because you are camping. Don’t forget to pack plenty of clean water.

Camping chairs and folding tables make sitting around the fire a lot more comfortable. You may enjoy sitting on a tree stump, but younger kids will get uncomfortable pretty quickly.

Lastly, bring extra clothing. You never know what to expect, so be prepared, just in case!

If you are prepared, your kids will have a blast, and they will look back on your camping trips as some of the high points of their childhood.

Be Prepared! What to take on a camping trip

October 8, 2009

Planning on getting back to nature for an enjoyable camping trip? This guide tells you what you need to bring to make sure you’re prepared.

The type of camping gear you will need will depend somewhat on what type of terrain and climate you will be camping in. However, this list will cover the basics for any type of camping trip.

First, be sure to bring lanterns and flashlights. You can’t have too many of these! For long camping trips, pack extra batteries.

Next, bring plenty of lighters and matches. Candles are optional depending on how “natural” you want to be.

For cooking, bring a camping stove, dutch oven, or other similar items. Whatever will make the most sense for the type of cooking you will be doing.

This one is important. Bring plenty of fresh water. You can never have enough of this. If you will be near a water source, water purification tablets or a portable purifier can be a lifesaver!

Bring plenty of food as well. It’s better to have more than you need rather than running out. Along with the cooking equipment, bring anything else you would need to prepare the food. Don’t forget the can opener! Paper plates, cups, napkins, and trash bags are vital.

Tents, sleeping bags, blankets, and plastic sheeting or tarps should be included with your gear. Don’t forget pillows and air mattresses if you don’t like sleeping on the hard ground.

Bring a first aid kit with antibiotic ointment, bandages, alcohol, and other related items. Don’t forget bug spray and sunscreen.

Remembering toilet paper and possibly a portable toilet is important. Moist towlettes or baby wipes are also useful. Bring soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries you will want to use.

Include some tools. A swiss army knife or leatherman tool for starters. Hammers, axes, shovels are helpful as well.

Other items you should think about take on a camping trip are binoculars, camping chairs and folding tables, rope or twine, towels and washcloths, and last but not least, backpacks.

This may sound like a lot of stuff to pack, but if you are smart about it and keep it organized, it won’t take up too much space and you will be so glad you were prepared when you get back to nature. Preparation will make your camping trip a success!
